cross roads
We have finally come to the cross roads, and one has to pause and reflect back. It has really been a long journey from web 2.0, library 2.0, wikis, creation of our weblogs to finally creating our websites using front page.
I feel so knowlegable and more confident with the web and computers. Thanks to Sandy Zinn for guiding us through the rough and interesting journey. I really enjoyed using e-learning, I think it is quite handy, the part that impressed me the most the the up-loading of assignment, and the cut of time, when you are late you are late there is nothing you can do. I've also learnt something about the knowledge society especially about the part that I summarised which was network societies, knowledge and new technologies. I have learnt a lot from the slide show presentations, from open access to digital divides of all sorts and intellectual property and piracy.
My assignment on indigenous knowledge and intellectual property was a hard nut to crack, but I learnt quite a lot from it. Before my assignment I did not know that indigenous knowledge was a field on its own with lots of research by social scientists, informational professionals and phamaciticals, and other scientists. and that there are debates going on internationally about indigenous knowledge and intellectual.
I now know the importance of indigenous knowledge especially to phamaciticals, lately I've develop an interest in reading ingrediants of products, especially the facial products, just to see which plants they used.
I also enjoyed every moment that I spent with my classmate, they were so supporting and loving.thank you to you all.
I cannot say bye, because I believe that we just reached the cross roads, not the end of the road, because learning never ends.

procrastination
I now understand my friend Patricia's famous quote, that says "procrastination is the thief of time", indeed postponing or deferring may work for later has stole my time. Now I wish the day was 30 hours or more. When we were given a extension for our blog and website I stopped attending to them, now that the due date is closer again, I'm now running around like a headless chicken, there is also another major assignment from LIS management that needs attention, and it is due next week There is no internet at our residents, so I have to queue up for computers in the library , but I could have done my work comfortably well on time.

web creation
for the last four weeks we have be learning how to create a website using front page, and I have found front page to be more userfriendly as compared to to html. when I was doing 4th year we created website using html, it was quite a night mare because if you missed a dot or something like that you could not the whole thing does not show, when you try to preview, atleast with front page, we do not use codes, we use everyday language.
Even though I find front page to be more user friendly than Html, I'm still struggling to come up with want I really want.

Flickr
You guys cannot believe I spent the whole day to today trying to open my flickr account and sending my flickr photo here. I wanted to my slideshow gadget to show my flickr photos, but I will try that again next time, today I will settle for this, I'm so tired now. Please guys help..
what I realised from this exercise is that you dont have to be intelligent to be computer literate, you just need time, and have patience to fail and try again. for the first time I can relate with my high school maths teacher's quote that "you will never master maths if you dont give yourself time to practice the sums". just like maths you need time with the computer.
This ICT course has been quite an eye opener for me, I'm becoming more and more confident with the computer, and the internet now.
about that photo: that is me and my work mate, last year in one of the rural areas in Botswana , we were conducting a performance audit assignment at that village.

Web evaluation
I once in a while shed a tear over a touching movie, but never had I shed a tear over an article,. Today I shed a tear when I was trying to evaluate the Genocide web sites that we were given in class to evaluate.Instead of evaluating, I read those touching stories. I always heard about this genocides on TV, but today they got into me..
I always thought websites were mainly there for marketing purposes, especially for business people. atleast today I learnt that a website is also a good tool for sensitizing people about important issues.

I think a week is not enough for school break..I really enjoyed myself during the short vac..Today in class I got to appreciate that we are very diverse,I was was fascinated by the way 2 different people presented the same topic in different approaches. I really learnt a lot from these presentations. Even though I was scared I also presented and was talking about debates around indigenous knowledge and intellectual property. I think the it was quite ok.

Capetown Weather
Indeed knowledge is power...yesterday I was really tempted not to go to class because of the terrible weather but I couldn't because of my eagerness to learn and attain more knowledge,.we (me & Patricia) were so socked when we arrived in class, but I didn't regret being there because I enjoyed the lesson about Wiki, I guess I'll create my own sometime in future, because I understand their importance now.
Guys tell me how long is winter in Cape town? my beach attaire is still new, since I got here I've been longings to go to the beach, but the weather is never condusive. You know in Botswana winter only take 3-4 months, and it doesn't rain in winter. So my friends back at home cannot understand why I'm not sending to beach picture because they have long waited for them. The are now starting to doubt wether I'm really in Cape town because I always tell them the same weather story

Library 2.0
this class becomes interesting everytime... Yesterday I learnt about Library 2.o. and I found it quite remarkable.I learnt that Library 2.0 embraces web 2.0 technologies, it emphasis on taking services to the people unlike the traditional library that users came to to get service.
the other interesting thing about Library 2.0 is that users are not only consumer but they are co-content developers.
I've noticed that the academic libraries are taking the lead in trying to be Library 2.0 complaint, even our own UWC library doesnt want to be left behind. They have introduces knowledge commons, in the library which is quite impressive. other University libraries like Pretoria have blog,..
its was also discussed in class that nowadays to stay in business you have to provide instant service, because people just want instant everything 24/7. The library as an organisation cannot be left behind, thats why Library 2.0.
what I liked the most, that I learnt from class was the Library thing site, I thought it was quite handy. One can organise and catalog his/her book collection at home.

I'm a masters student in the University of Western Cape, and I'm doing the course called ICT trends and application in LIS, It quite interesting because we are taught about what is really taking place ICT world or web world which is ever changing. Last week, we were taught about the importance of blog and how to create them. Today we were taught about Web 2.0 and it technologies.. how web 2.0 defers from web 1.o
